Gary B. Hansen photograph collection, 1915-1919.

Black and white photographs that were taken by Clarence James (C.J.) Hansen during his service as a Lieutenant in the United States Army during WWI. The collection consists of a photo album, a folder of three photographs, and two tightly rolled photographs. The album contains photographs taken in 1918 of Utah Agricultural College (now Utah State University), WWI training at Camp Stanley, Texas, and the Saumur Artillery School, France, and the Gas School at Chaumont, France. Subjects in the album are mainly of military life: training, weapons, soldiers, and nurses (including C.J.'s sister, Ruth C. Hansen). The folder contains three photographs of the 3rd Battery in Leon Springs Training Camp taken February 2, 1918, labeled with the last names of the members of the 3rd Battery.

Clarence James Hansen was born on February 11, 1896 to Hans Peter Hansen and Mary Christina Nielsen Hansen in Salt Lake City, Utah. He entered Utah Agricultural College (now Utah State University) in Logan, Utah, as a freshman in 1915. During his junior year in December 1917 he enlisted in the United States Army.
